AUSTIN , TX . (Jan. 31, 2008) - The Travis County Sheriffs??? Law Enforcement Association has endorsed Mindy Montford for Travis County District Attorney. ???We believe Montford is the only candidate who has the experience, expertise and energy to handle the challenges facing our county which is expected to grow by nearly 40% over the next 15 years,??? says Brett Spicer of the Travis County Sheriff???s Law Enforcement Association. ???Montford is tough on crime, pro-active rather than re-active, and a leader who will bring this community together to improve the quality of life for all residents for the long-term,??? he adds.
Montford, who has worked as a felony prosecutor for Travis County since 1999 , says she is honored to receive the endorsement of the Travis County Sheriffs??? The public safety group says Montford is the only candidate who has initiated solutions to the county???s problems. ???We applaud Montford???s plans to create a 24/7 intake office which will make prosecutors available to law enforcement fighting crime every day of the week and every hour of the day, ??? says Spicer. He adds, ???Not only does Montford understand what it will take to make this county safer with a 24/7 intake office, she has also developed a plan to tackle the ever growing problem of Internet Crimes, and she is working to shorten the time between indictment and prosecution which will better serve both victims and defendants in criminal cases.???
The TCSLEA says it is impressed with Montford???s experience in the Travis County District Attorney???s Trial Court Division, Family Justice Division and the Public Integrity Unit, along with her experience as a prosecutor in a major metropolitan county, and her legislative experience working as Chief Counsel to a state senator.
